This page is for the people that I’ve followed closely and trust.
Want more? I have a fortnighly column at Problogger where I talk about interesting bloggers to watch. I’ve also written the list of Bloggers to watch in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
Thought leaders:
- Kate Kendall: Kate is a global digital thinker and doer working across the marketing, community and content space. She is doing some pretty cool things – especially with The Fetch and Cloud Peeps.
- Ash Ambirge: Ash is brilliant at personality marketing and taking care of your community. I love her style and she’s one of the few people I read regularly.
People who intuitively understand community:
- Marcus Sheridan Marcus has built a passionate community around his Sales Lion blog. You can learn so much by watching how he engages with people in the comment section, and in the actual posts.
- Deb Ng Deb has been around managing communties for longer then I’ve been blogging. She run, managed and sold a popular freelance blog and is now the conference director for a major blog conference. Fantastic person. Also authored Online Community Management for Dummies
Digital:
- Julia Hughan Jules is a fixture in the Melbourne social media scene. She’s at the start of her career, but I have so much respect for her and her work.
- Justine Bloome Justine is a client of mine, but is also someone i’ve respected for a long time. Does brilliant work at The Village Agency
Startups:
The people I’m including here are those that are pretty accesible. I’m not heavily into the startup scene but love reading about interesting people and stories. These are those that don’t require a huge amount of startup knowledge, and are pretty cool.
- Sarah Lacy: Sarah Lacy writes about startups. Former writer at Tech Crunch. Brilliant writer, loved her book about how some entrepreneurs profit from global chaos, Brilliant, Crazy, Cocky
- Paul Graham is one of the founders of Y Combinator and is just generally a pretty cool guy. Definitely check out this mixergy interview to get a taste of his style.
Marketing:
- David Meerman Scott: THE guy when it comes to marketing and leadership. His books are a goldmine of information, especially Real Time Marketing and Pr and Newsjacking
- John Jantsch: Focuses on marketing for small businesses. Has some really accessible posts on new tools and strategies. The book Referral Engine is a personal favourite
Adventure Travel:
- James and Justin These mates have previously kayaked from Australia to New Zealand. Their latest adventure is walking to the edge of Antarctica to the South Pole and back without assistance
- Dave Cornthwaite Dave is known for achieving the guinness world record for the longest distance travelled by skateboard. He travelled across Australia from Perth to Brisbane. His new project, Expedition1000, consists of 25 separate journeys of 1000 miles or more, each using a different form of non-motorised transport.
